for Mainstream Canarias
ICEAGE is a winter fashion story I created with stylist Juan Acuñas to talk about mountains, winter and of course, beautiful pieces of clothing for that season. As I come from a land of volcanos and mountains I grew up surrounded by them. Specifically next to a huge volcano part of the Andes mountain range. The name of this volcano is Pichincha. It’s an active stratovolcano in Quito, the capital of Ecuador, it’s higher pick is called Guagua Pichincha. It’s last explosion was between 1999 – 2001 and I was there. I remember the ashes drawing a gigantic mushroom shape on the sky. Cars stopped, classes as well, everyone was trying to go home, call their families, etc.
Anyways, Ecuador is the land of volcanos and thats why I created this 3D shapes based on the shapes of the volcanos from my country. Trying to get the shapes a little further found inspiration on the mountains and volcanos from my country. Also as this editorial was for a magazine with the name Canarias on it, and the Canari Islands are a volcanic archipelago it’s a nice way to relate the shapes and the concept behind it. The volcanos I represented are the Cotopaxi and the Guagua Pichincha. Cotopaxi means “Neck of the Moon” in an indigenous language Quichua and Guagua means “kid”. Hope you enjoy it.
